Rice, Iranian have little contact



SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt -
Iran’s foreign minister walked out of a dinner of diplomats where he was seated directly across from Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice, ostensibly because a female violinist entertaining the gathering was dressed too revealingly.
“I don’t know which woman he was afraid of, the woman in the red dress or the secretary of state,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday, regarding the actions of Iran’s Manouchehr Mottaki.

Rice and Mottaki did eventually meet at lunch Friday but exchanged only pleasantries. According to
Iraq’s foreign minister, Iranian and American ambassadors met for more serious talks on the sidelines of the conference to stabilize Iraq — the second such encounter since March 10.

“There was no direct meeting but they were in the same room and they were discussing the issues,” said Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.
